Welcome to the Foresight project on International Dimensions of Climate Change (January 2010 - present)
This new style Foresight project will analyse how climate change abroad will affect the UK. The project is co-funded by Defra and will enhance the evidence base of the Climate Change Risk Assessment to ensure that UK Government adaptation policy takes appropriate account of international impacts.
It will combine peer-reviewed evidence with futures analysis expertise and is a hybrid between classic landmark Foresight studies and more discrete projects carried out by the Horizon Scanning Centre.
The project will publish its findings in autumn 2010.
Background
The Climate Change Act requires the government to undertake the UK’s first Climate Change Risk Assessment to be put before Parliament by January 2012. The Climate Change Risk Assessment is the central evidence source for Defra’s national adaptation policy.
This one year project will augment the evidence base of the Climate Change Risk Assessment. Foresight will work with leading experts to assemble the latest evidence and research to create a robust evidence base. It will use futures techniques to explore the issues and uncertainties of the international dimensions of climate change before reporting.
Lead Experts
A group comprising of senior scientists and other experts will work with Foresight to ensure that the project is based on cutting-edge evidence, and that its analysis is of the highest technical and scientific standard.
Senior Advisory Board
This will be chaired by the Government Chief Scientific Adviser and will include senior officials from relevant departments. It will advise on the strategic direction of the project, and the actions that should result from the work.
