Welcome to the Foresight project on International Dimensions of Climate Change (January 2010 - present)

The aim of the International Dimensions of Climate Change project is to improve our understanding of how climate change impacts overseas will affect the UK.

This new style Foresight project is a hybrid between classic landmark Foresight studies and more discrete projects carried out by the Foresight Horizon Scanning Centre, combining peer-reviewed evidence with future analysis expertise.

The Climate Change Act requires the government to undertake the UK’s first Climate Change Risk Assessment to be put before Parliament by January 2012. This twelve month project is co-funded by DEFRA and DECC, and will augment the evidence base of the Climate Change Risk Assessment to ensure that adaptation policy takes account of international impacts.

Foresight is working with leading experts to assemble the latest evidence and research to create a robust evidence base. This project is using futures techniques to explore the issues and uncertainties of the international dimensions of climate change.

The project will publish its findings in late 2010.

Lead Experts

A group comprising of senior scientists and other experts are working with Foresight to ensure that the project is based on cutting-edge evidence, and that its analysis is of the highest technical and scientific standard. Professor Andrew Sentance, external member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of England and part-time Professor of Sustainable Business at Warwick Business School, chairs the Project’s Lead Expert Group.
