Over 100 delegates participated in the event at Bristol while many registered as "virtual delegates" to view the live webcast and contribute their own suggestions by e-mail.

Chaired by Dr John Taylor, Director General of the Research Councils, and with a keynote speech by Lord Sainsbury, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, the event also featured leading experts in the field of Cognitive Systems from the UK and overseas including:

Prof Jon Hopfield Princeton University
Prof Lynn Nadel University of Arizona

4 July 2003 -Cognitive Systems Project Inter Action Conference 3-5 September, HP Labs Bristol - IAC-03

Attendance by invitation only

IAC is the major output from the Cognitive Systems Project. It will:

  • bring together the science issues explored during the course of the project;
  • consider possibilities for collaborative research incuding areas that have already been scoped through "Grand Challenges" and Mini Challenges
  • consider the wider ethical, social and economic issues that might arise from the science.

Outcomes from the conference and plans to take them forward will be published on the website in the Autumn
